5200 / WinNT4

ED Notes: All of the references to the 5200P refer to 5200's whose model # (which can be found on the bottom of the notebook) begins with 5200P... or 5400P... . Windows NT 4.0 has not been tested on non-P 5200's (serial #'s prior to 617xxxxx).

Windows NT 4 has now been tested by customers on the non-P 5200's. They report that on VADEM-equipped 5200's, it is necessary to either (1a) Load Windows 95 with the Vadem PCMCIA drivers in place or (1b) Load DOS with the Vadem PCMCIA drivers in CONFIG.SYS, and then (2) execute a SOFT boot (Cntl-Alt-Del), then (3) choose to load Windows NT 4. This initializes the Vadem PCMCIA chipset, at which point it is ready to accept cards and report them to the system.

Windows NT 4.0 is an outstanding operating system for use on a 5200P /mint. Since Windows NT 4 has just been released, technical details are still sparse, but we will add them here as they become available.
