Tech Note #G12: Changing the registered name of a Windows 95 installation:

  1. Click the Win95 Start button, then choose Programs and Command Prompt.
  2. At the command prompt, type regedit [Enter].
  3. The registry editor appears. Drop down the Edit menu and choose Find. Type the name your copy of Windows 95 is currently registered under. For example, it might be registered as Valued Mint Customer. Hint: it is easier to search for just of portion of this name (such as "valued m").
  4. When the entry appears, double-click on Registered Owner in the right hand window, and enter the value you want to appear. You can also double-click on Registered Organization to change this value to the one your prefer.
  5. When you are finished changing these values, click on the X at the top right hand corner of the registry window to close it. Type exit [Enter] at the DOS prompt to close the Command Prompt window.
  6. Reboot your system to put the changed names into effect.
